LITIGATION UPDATE: Former TikTok Content Moderators Sue Over Exposure to Disturbing Imagery A San Francisco law firm that previously won a $52 million settlement on behalf of content moderators who said their work for Facebook Inc. subjected them to psychological distress has sued social media platform TikTok and parent Bytedance Inc. on similar grounds. Joseph Saveri Law Firm attorney Steve Williams filed a lawsuit on behalf of former TikTok moderators Ashley Velez and Reece Young, who contend they’ve had to use their own money to pay for counseling to help them deal with the trauma of watching videos depicting sexual abuse, murder and violence as part of their jobs with TikTok. The suit alleges that the company violated California labor laws by neither providing them with adequate training nor instituting measures that would have helped them cope with the types of imagery to which they were subjected.
