LAWSUIT UPDATE: Family of Cinematographer Slain on “Rust” Set Sues Producers, Star Over Shooting The family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who died after being shot in an accident on the New Mexico set of the film “Rust,” has sued the production’s producers and actor Alec Baldwin, who was holding the gun that fired a live round, killing her. The suit filed on behalf of Hutchins’ husband, Matthew, and son, Andros, alleges that the production cut corners and violated industry safety standards by using a real gun instead of a prop during the ill-fated rehearsal of a scene in October 2021. This is the latest of several lawsuits filed in her death, including one by the film’s armorer alleging that a supplier incorrectly included live rounds among boxes of ammunition that were supposed to contain only blanks.
